Design description
Imagine an indoor cycling track in the shape of an ellipse, and on it speeding glass balls - instead of bicycles. Suddenly one ball disappears, another stops, a new one appears - bigger, feistier. It's not chaos, it's pure fun! It is from such childish spontaneity, courage and joy that KOBAN A was created - a lamp that combines freedom of form with maturity of design.
The central element of the design is a metal ellipse, which binds the composition - like a track on which two glass spheres of different sizes move. Their asymmetrical arrangement attracts the eye and arouses curiosity. This is lighting that is not predictable, but precisely because of this it gives the space character and energy.
The lamp is available in two colors: timeless white (Signal White RAL 9003) and elegant black (Jet Black RAL 9005). KOBAN A is a tribute to children's imagination, enclosed in a modern form - unobvious, feisty, yet harmonious.
Lamp components and functionality
KOBAN A is 50 cm long, 20 cm wide and 28 cm high, and its total length (with suspension) is 148 cm. The structure is a metal frame in the shape of an ellipse, to which are attached two glass shades with diameters of 15 cm and 20 cm. A 120 cm long polyester cord and two steel cables ensure stable and aesthetic suspension.
The lamp is equipped with two G9 sockets (LED max 2×12W), which allows you to choose the power and color temperature to suit the needs of a particular interior. The metal ceiling bezel with a diameter of 12 cm blends in with the whole, keeping the form clean and clear.
Application and protection class IP20 / IP44
Koban series was created for interiors that want to speak their own language. Koban A is available in two variants of waterproofing:
- IP20 - for dry spaces: living rooms, bedrooms, offices or dining rooms.
- IP44 - for places exposed to moisture, such as bathrooms or toilets (with proper installation zone).
The Koban collection was designed with a consistent and comprehensive approach to lighting design in mind. It includes not only the KOBAN A variant, but also two other pendant lamps - KOBAN B and KOBAN C - as well as KOBAN D and KOBAN E wall lamps. The entire collection is completed by the KOBAN ST table lamp, ideal for placing on bedside tables, consoles or dressers.

Lamps from the Koban series are assembled by hand - with attention to detail, proportion and quality of finish. Each piece is the result of a combination of precision craftsmanship and bold vision. This is not a serial product - it is a story, enchanted in glass and metal.

Designed by
Michał Markiewicz
Designer, interior architect, co-founder and main creator of the UMMO Lighting brand. He comes from Gdansk, Poland, where he developed a passion for design from an early age. Even as a child he created lamps from available materials, rearranging lampshades and experimenting with form. Over time, he naturally gravitated towards interior design and industrial design, combining functionality with aesthetics in his own way.
He graduated with a degree in Interior Design, and also gained experience as a jewelry and furniture designer. Today he focuses on lighting, which he treats as “jewelry of the interior.” - It not only complements the space, but becomes its focal point. He draws inspiration from everyday life: forms, textures and shapes present in the environment.
His creative process involves a journey from sketch to prototype and final product, with functionality being paramount - each lamp must not only catch the eye, but also shine well. Michał's designs are dominated by recyclable materials: metal, glass, wood. UMMO's style is recognizable for its distinctive form and color, as well as its attention to quality and timelessness.
For Michał, local production and sustainable design are particularly important to minimize environmental impact and promote conscious design. UMMO Lighting is a brand that, through his vision, combines aesthetics with responsibility and craftsmanship with modernity.
