Design Description
The MALUMI A lamp is a distinct combination of functional art and 1980s aesthetics. Its name, inspired by the word "malumi" meaning sailor in Tamil, refers to travel and the discovery of new forms. The lamp's design draws from the Memphis movement, characterized by bold colors and geometric shapes, while maintaining modernist simplicity. Its form - based on a flat-oval shade - is a conscious reference to modernism, in which the simplicity of geometry was meant to express modernity and order. UMMO reaches for this motif with full consistency, but adds energy to it through intense colors, so the lamp does not blend into the background - it was designed to be present as a clear accent in the interior. The color, shape and balanced proportions make it an almost sculptural object - more like a contemporary light installation than a classic fixture. In the spirit of Memphis aesthetics, MALUMI A combines geometry with expression, but does so with control and a sense of proportion.
Lamp components and functionality
The body of the lamp is made of powder-coated aluminum, whose deep matte shade enhances the expressiveness of form and color. Thanks to the material used, it is lightweight, despite its considerable dimensions. It can be found in colors:white RAL 9003, black RAL 9005, red-orange RAL 2002, navy blue RAL 5003, olive RAL 6013.The whole creates a compact, unified light object, in which the light source has been integrated at the factory - this means that it does not require a separate bulb or replacement.
The integrated LED module is designed to emit light evenly and softly, with high energy efficiency and longevity. As a result, MALUMI A provides consistent, well-distributed luminance, without the need for additional adjustment or user intervention.
The lamp is suspended from a textile strip in a color matching the body, with a length of 145 cm. Its horizontal form and proportions (80 x 5.2 x 35 cm) make it perfect over a kitchen island, bar or table, bringing not only light, but also character to the space.
Application and IP20 protection class
With an IP20 protection class, MALUMI A is designed for indoor use in dry areas. It will perfectly blend in over a dining room table, over a kitchen island or in a stylish living room, adding character and energy to the interior.

Designed by
Michał Markiewicz
Designer, interior architect, co-founder and main creator of the UMMO Lighting brand. He comes from Gdansk, Poland, where he developed a passion for design from an early age. Even as a child he created lamps from available materials, rearranging lampshades and experimenting with form. Over time, he naturally gravitated towards interior design and industrial design, combining functionality with aesthetics in his own way.
He graduated with a degree in Interior Design, and also gained experience as a jewelry and furniture designer. Today he focuses on lighting, which he treats as “jewelry of the interior.” - It not only complements the space, but becomes its focal point. He draws inspiration from everyday life: forms, textures and shapes present in the environment.
His creative process involves a journey from sketch to prototype and final product, with functionality being paramount - each lamp must not only catch the eye, but also shine well. Michał's designs are dominated by recyclable materials: metal, glass, wood. UMMO's style is recognizable for its distinctive form and color, as well as its attention to quality and timelessness.
For Michał, local production and sustainable design are particularly important to minimize environmental impact and promote conscious design. UMMO Lighting is a brand that, through his vision, combines aesthetics with responsibility and craftsmanship with modernity.
