Design description
BORRA A is a wall sconce from the BORRA collection by UMMO - a collection that literally drills into your memory and stays there for a long time. Inspired by the Swedish word borra (to drill), this unique fixture catches the eye and instantly adds character to an interior. Its design is a combination of contemporary elegance with a slight hint of industrial austerity.
At the heart of the composition is a milky white glass lampshade with a diameter of 15 cm - spherical and perfectly smooth - which rests on a metal disk with a diameter of 20 cm. This geometric duo is a play of contrasts: the soft photosensitivity of glass and the noble hardness of metal. Depending on the color variant - brushed brass (with a brass disk), white or black - the lamp takes on a slightly different character: from subtle and elegant, to strongly graphic and expressive.
Lamp components and functionality
BORRA A is a carefully thought-out design, in which each component has both an aesthetic and practical function. The central milk-white glass shade diffuses light evenly, creating a soft and pleasant glow. Based on a metal disk (⌀20 cm), the wall lamp directs part of the light to the wall, creating an interesting, subtle lighting effect.
The lamp measures 17.7 x 20 x 20 cm and has a G9 fixture, compatible with LED bulbs up to 12W - giving you the ability to choose the color and intensity of the light to suit your interior. The black structural mounting base contrasts with the rest of the form and emphasizes its architectural character.
Application and IP20 / IP44 protection class
BORRA A was designed for a variety of spaces - both residential and commercial. The standard IP20-rated version is perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, corridors or relaxation areas. The IP44 version allows the lamp to be used safely also in areas exposed to moisture, such as bathrooms and toilets - even near water sources.
Thanks to its elegant yet discreet form, BORRA A is perfectly suited for luxury interiors, boutique hotels, spa areas or designer bathrooms - both as a single accent and as part of a larger lighting composition. The wall lamp is an integral part of the BORRA collection, which also includes the BORRA B pendant lamp and the BORRA ST table lamp - together they form a coherent lighting set, allowing to maintain stylistic continuity throughout the interior.
Handcrafted and unique character
Each lamp in the BORRA series is created with attention to detail, and its metal/brass and glass components are carefully refined. In the variant with brushed brass, it is worth mentioning its natural beauty - over time this material is covered with a delicate patina, gaining a noble, unique look.

Designed by
Michał Markiewicz
Designer, interior architect, co-founder and main creator of the UMMO Lighting brand. He comes from Gdansk, Poland, where he developed a passion for design from an early age. Even as a child he created lamps from available materials, rearranging lampshades and experimenting with form. Over time, he naturally gravitated towards interior design and industrial design, combining functionality with aesthetics in his own way.
He graduated with a degree in Interior Design, and also gained experience as a jewelry and furniture designer. Today he focuses on lighting, which he treats as “jewelry of the interior.” - It not only complements the space, but becomes its focal point. He draws inspiration from everyday life: forms, textures and shapes present in the environment.
His creative process involves a journey from sketch to prototype and final product, with functionality being paramount - each lamp must not only catch the eye, but also shine well. Michał's designs are dominated by recyclable materials: metal, glass, wood. UMMO's style is recognizable for its distinctive form and color, as well as its attention to quality and timelessness.
For Michał, local production and sustainable design are particularly important to minimize environmental impact and promote conscious design. UMMO Lighting is a brand that, through his vision, combines aesthetics with responsibility and craftsmanship with modernity.
