Design Description
RIFLO W B Steel is a wall sconce that combines the essence of modernist architecture with a contemporary approach to design. Its elongated, oval form draws on the geometric principles of modernism and the Bauhaus aesthetic, in which simplicity, functionality, and harmonious proportions form the foundation of the design. The steel finish gives the fixture an elegant, timeless character, while its slender silhouette emphasizes its architectural expression.
The lamp’s most distinctive feature is its graphite-colored, grooved glass shade, complemented by a decorative steel-colored element. The regular grooves lend the surface rhythm and depth, subtly refracting the light and creating an intriguing play of reflections. The transparent glass highlights the material’s structure while maintaining the visual lightness of the entire design. It is a contemporary interpretation of a modernist form, in which its decorative quality stems from its texture, proportions, and precisely refined details.
The name RIFLO can be interpreted as a combination of associations with the English words “riffle,” meaning grooving or embossing, and “flow,” referring to movement. This combination aptly captures the character of the design—the rhythmic structure of the grooved glass and the fluidity of the elongated form. As a result, RIFLO W B Steel combines geometric precision with the subtle dynamics of its surface.

Designed by
Michał Markiewicz
Designer, interior architect, co-founder and main creator of the UMMO Lighting brand. He comes from Gdansk, Poland, where he developed a passion for design from an early age. Even as a child he created lamps from available materials, rearranging lampshades and experimenting with form. Over time, he naturally gravitated towards interior design and industrial design, combining functionality with aesthetics in his own way.
He graduated with a degree in Interior Design, and also gained experience as a jewelry and furniture designer. Today he focuses on lighting, which he treats as “jewelry of the interior.” - It not only complements the space, but becomes its focal point. He draws inspiration from everyday life: forms, textures and shapes present in the environment.
His creative process involves a journey from sketch to prototype and final product, with functionality being paramount - each lamp must not only catch the eye, but also shine well. Michał's designs are dominated by recyclable materials: metal, glass, wood. UMMO's style is recognizable for its distinctive form and color, as well as its attention to quality and timelessness.
For Michał, local production and sustainable design are particularly important to minimize environmental impact and promote conscious design. UMMO Lighting is a brand that, through his vision, combines aesthetics with responsibility and craftsmanship with modernity.
